What To Wear in Egypt: A Complete Guide

Gazef, August 17, 2025

Here’s your complete guide for what to wear in Egypt, depending on the season you’re visiting the country!

Egypt’s known for its hot and dry weather, however the country also experiences some cold winter days. Egypt is a modest country, so it’s important to respect the cultural norms and traditions of the locals. Dressing appropriately—not just for the weather, but for the environment and culture—can make your trip smoother, safer, and more immersive.

1. Summer Wear (June-September)

Summer’s in Egypt are hot and dry. You can expect temperatures to reach up to 40 °C  (104° F) in Cairo, with even higher temperatures in Upper Egypt.  Temperatures along the coast are slightly milder, however it’s still going to be very warm.

We recommend packing:

  • Loose clothes, with comfortable fabrics
  • Short Sleeved t-shirts
  • Longer pants or skirts, if you’re staying in the city
  • Open Toed Shoes

Tank tops and shorter clothes can also be worn if you’re staying at a beach resort or at a beach town, like Marsa Alam,  however we recommend taking precautions in bigger cities, as Egypt is a modest country.

 2.  Fall  (September- December)

Fall in Egypt is thought to be Egypt’s perfect season; the weather’s not too hot or cold, and the crowds have lessened out. Fall in Egypt promises sunny mornings, and cool nights, with the occasional extra hot day or extra cool night. That said, it’s important to check the weather during your trip, and pack accordingly. Here’s a list of all the spots we recommend visiting in the fall time in Egypt!

We recommend packing:

  • Short sleeved t-shirts and long sleeved shirts
  • Long, loose pants and skirts
  • Light hoodie or zip up sweater
  • Sneakers, boots, and open toed shoes

 3. Winter Wear (December- February)

Temperatures in winter in Egypt can get relatively cold and windy  in the city, and very cold out in the desert. In Cairo, most winter days see a high temperature of 19°C (66°F). Upper Egypt is usually slightly warmer, with temperatures of around 21°C (69°F), and desert temperatures can go as low as below 10°C at night (50°F). Therefore, it’s important to pack warm clothes, particularly if you’re going camping in the desert.

We recommend packing:

  • Long sleeved tshirts
  • Long, loose pants
  • Zip up hoodies and sweatshirts
  • Midweight jacket
  • Thermal fleece layers if you’re going to be camping

 4. Spring Wear (March-June)

Spring is one of the most comfortable times to travel in Egypt. The heat isn’t yet at its peak, and the weather is mostly dry.

We recommend packing:

  • Long sleeved tshirts
  • Short sleeved t-shirts
  • Long, loose pants and skirts
  • Zip up hoodies and sweatshirts
  • Sneakers and open-toed shoes
