The Blue Lagoon in Dahab
This world-famous lagoon is a haven for kitesurfers of all levels. The Blue Lagoon is a beautiful but remote beach camp north of Dahab. The shallow waters offer a perfect learning ground for beginners, while more advanced riders can head outside the lagoon. Blue Lagoon is also the place where the biggest kitesurfing event in Egypt is held; Redbull Winds of Sinai. This kitesurfing spot combines ideal wind, calm waters, and stunning scenery. The best time to go kitesurfing at Blue Lagoon is between the months of April to October; the wind is at its best and you can enjoy the warm temperature and sunny weather.
El Gouna
This luxurious resort town offers a variety of kitesurfing schools and rentals, making it a great choice for beginners and those seeking a hassle-free experience. This is because the calm waters of the lagoons and steady on-shore winds provide a safe and comfortable environment to learn and practice. The water temperature is around 29 degrees celsius during the summer and drops to 20 degrees in winter. Therefore, this kitesurfing spot is enjoyable all year-round.
Ras Sudr
A short drive 2hr from Cairo, Ras Sudr is known for its strong winds and flat waters. It is ideal for experienced kitesurfers looking to hone their skills and practice tricks. The average wind speed is between 16 to 25 knots, and can go up to 30 knots in September, when it’s at its windiest. The overall conditions in this kitesurfing spot are at their best from March through to November (so basically Spring through to Fall), with the water being flat shallow lagoons.
Soma Bay
Soma Bay is south of Hurghada and technically part of the Safaga area. This place is so good for kitesurfing, it deserves to be on this top five kitesurfing spots list! Unlike other places, Soma Bay is surrounded by water on three sides, which means wind blows almost every day. The water in the bay is warm and shallow, perfect for learning. There’s even an island nearby called Tobia that’s popular with kitesurfers too. Additionally, Soma Bay is home to only a handful of beach resorts, so it’s a good place to go if you want to avoid the crowds.
Wadi Lahami
Wadi Lahami is the farthest place on this list and the most remote. It’s a small village way down south in Egypt. The closest big city is Marsa Alam, which is about 180 kilometers north. There’s also a small town called Hamata about 10 kilometers North. Wadi Lahami is essentially an ecolodge/camp and diving center, but is also a perfect place for kitesurfers. They have a kite center right on the beach, in front of a sandy bottom lagoon. In this kitesurfing spot, you can swim all year-long. You only need a thin wetsuit from November to April; the water is so warm the rest of the year that you can kite in your normal swimsuit.
